Pierce Fast Western System

Western blot transfer completed in 10 minutes!

Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Western Transfer Apparatus for use with the Pierce Fast Western Blot System.
Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Buffer 10X, Methanol-Free designed for the Pierce Fast Western electro blotter.

The Thermo Scientific Pierce Fast Western Transfer System reduces protein transfer time from SDS-PAGE to a membrane from 45 minutes to only 10 minutes. The system consists of two parts, the Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Buffer and the Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Blotter. Use our cost-effective Western Blot Transfer System to obtain membranes that are Western blotting-ready in 10 minutes without the need to purchase special consumables.

About the Pierce Fast Transfer System

The Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Blotter is an Western transfer apparatus that enables rapid transfer of proteins or nucleic acids from a gel to a membrane. When used with the Thermo Scientific Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Buffer, efficient protein transfer can be achieved in under 10 minutes. The Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Blotter also can be used for conventional semi-dry transfer using traditional buffers and western blotting protocols. The major advantages of fast semi-dry blotting are reduced buffer consumption, uniform electric field, high transfer efficiency, shorter transfer times and higher throughput (up to 4 mini-gels).

The Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Buffer is designed to accelerate the transfer of proteins from SDS-PAGE gels to nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes in 7-10 minutes compared with the traditional 45-minute transfer. This semi-dry transfer buffer is part of the Pierce Fast Western System and is also compatible with other semi-dry transfer units. The formulation does not require methanol and is supplied as a 10X concentrate that is simply diluted with deionized water before use.

Highlights of the Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer System:

  • Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Blotter
    • Fast – transfer protein from gel to membrane in 7-10 minutes
    • Sensitive – same transfer efficiency as other semi-dry or wet-transfer units
    • Economical – no special consumables needed
    • Robust – transfer up to 4 gels at one time
    • Versatile – use homemade or pre-cast gels
  • Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Buffer
    • Optimized – formulated for accelerated transfer
    • Non-hazardous – no methanol required, eliminating hazardous disposal
    • Compatible – use with all major SDS-PAGE gels (Tris-HEPES, Tris-Glycine, Bis-Tris and Tris-HCl)
    • Flexible – use with any semi-dry transfer unit; use with nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes
    • Easy to use – simply dilute the 10X concentrated formula in ultrapure water
The Pierce Fast Western System is comparable to the iBlot.
Transfer efficiency of the Thermo Scientific Pierce Fast Transfer System is comparable to existing methods. A549 whole cell lysates were prepared for SDS-PAGE and loaded onto a NuPAGE* 4-12% Bis-Tris Gel (1.0 mm x 10 well) using the following protein amounts: 16 µg, 8 µg, 4 µg and 2 µg. After electrophoresis, gels were transferred to nitrocellulose membrane using either Pierce Fast Semi- Dry Transfer System or the Invitrogen iBlot* Dry Blotting System. Resulting membranes were probed for PRKDC, EGFR, PLK1, CDC2 and Cyclophilin B using the Pierce Fast Western Blotting Kit.

Thermo Scientific Pierce Fast Transfer System is a rapid and economical alternative other popular transfer systems.

Recommended high-current power supplies for the Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Transfer Blotting Apparatus.
Model Maximum Current
Fisher FB200Q 2.0 Amps
Owl EC-200XL 2.0 Amps
Consort EV202 (Germany, France) 2.0 Amps
Note: Any power supply capable of generating at least 25 Volts is compatible with the Pierce Semi-Dry Transfer Apparatus. If lower voltage power supplies are used then the transfer area must be decreased or the transfer time must be increased for complete protein transfer.
